 Set in tranquil gardens this Elizabethan house, in an unusual setting, is an unexpected treasure in the heart of Barking. Built between 1560 and 1573, Eastbury Hall, as it was formerly known, was built for Clement Sisley and his growing family. This rare example of a mid-16th-century brick-built Gentry house tells an extraordinary story

Exciting galleries tell the story of Barking and Dagenham and its people throughout the ages, or you can discover the tranquil herb garden, research local and family history in the Archives and Local Studies Centre or visit the Tulip Tree Tea Room. Valence House also offers a year-round programme of events for all the family and was voted by the Guardian as one of the 50 best free things to do in London.
